07 - Relationships (Required/Desired)

Human lives are profoundly impacted by the relationships that are beyond our choice: parents, teachers, coaches, bosses. Was a parent an abuser? Did a teacher make math interesting? Did a coach teach a little basketball and a lot of commitment to personal excellence? Our lives are profoundly impacted by unchosen relationships, both good and bad.

We also impact our lives with the relationships that we choose. Do we choose challenging or easy professors, coaches that are spittin-scratchin jocks or teacher-philosophers that use sports as a life lesson; intimate partners that are healthy and supportive, or destructive? These relationship decisions also profoundly affect our lives.

Organizations are just as influenced/impacted by their required and desired relationships. And, as with human relationships, your organization's goal is to minimize stressful/hostile relationships while soliciting/promoting/maximizing positive constructive relationships.

Testimonials
An agency wanted to install security plexiglass across its public counters to enhance the perception of security, and reduce lobby noise in the work area. It offered glass businesses a charitable gift letter for tax deduction of the value of contributed glass as well as the right to place an advertising sticker on the glass that was contributed. A glass company responded. It got its tax deduction and advertising, and the agency got its counter glass.
